99 percent of what I read are manuals and magazines. Not gonna lie about it. I have however read every book about the Angels, Blue Highway, On The Road and now the best one to date is the Johnny Ramone Autobiography. I love the Ramones almost to the fanatic level. They were my crossover to punk band. I listened to the Beach Boys allot growing up and then I heard there version of Do You Wanna Dance. I was freaking out it was so good. I think I was about 11 and after that I was hooked. Had no idea what punk was for at least another 2 years but I knew I loved some loud ass guitar. I bought my first guitar so I could learn how to play along to the records. He is smart as a whip and brutally honest and getting all the dirt straight from the horses mouth is awesome. So do yourself a favor and check it out. I have not set it down since yesterday. I am gonna be super sad when I read the last word. All the greats are gone and he was one of the greatest.
Ps I was told today I only had 394 days till I was officially old as fuck. I laughed and then cried a little bit. Fuck. Also was told I need to be nice from now on. I'll try I swear. Arrrggghhhh

So You Say It's Your Birthday...
Well its my birthday too. Whatever, I truly believe they should outlaw birthdays after your 18th one. A man would only be aged be the size of his beard. Awesome I'd say. Anyways I have been thinking way to much as of late and it has been terrible. Life is so fucking cruel that some times the load is just to much to carry by yourself. Why do you think you love your friends, family, kids, motorcycles for that matter. All these things help us through the hum drum lives that we have been forced to endure. Heavy right, well I have had to make myself deal with way too much drama as of late. I have made every girl I know cry lately and that is a truly terrible feeling. My brain is rotten and my heart is burnt 50wt at this point. When I find a new friend I usually glob on to them dearly until they piss me off then I push them away and move on. I have never truly had a best friend girl/boy doesn't matter. Don't care for the drama and all the "Why haven't you called BS". So I go about my work and family life as if I am against the world all the time. Being a punk rock kid just helped this grow in me. So I am 39 years old today and know allot more then I did at 18 but some things will never change. Hold the ones that love you close and fuck everybody else. Straight and to the point the Anchor way. Sorry............................
Ps. It is already cold as shit in KC so enjoy this summertime picture. It was like 100 degrees and that lemonade was freaking delicious. I always talk shit on rockabilly girls with there parasol's so I put one in my hat. Funny
Pss The Shovel is coming along nicely. Pics later this week. I was never hip on naming your bike. Bikes kinda name themselves. So with that The Shovel is going to be called "The Wizard."

Pefect Bobber...
When I hear the word Bobber this is what I see. Not some POS xs 650 or any kind of Triumph. Sorry those bikes really can not be a real bobber. How ever you can build a chopper out of such bikes. This bike is the dictionary classic original meaning of a bobber. So study this, learn it and stop calling your fucking 1980 Yamaha a bobber. It just can't be done. Sorry. Another asshole service announcement from The Anchor.
Messing With Trannies....
Finally got all the seals done and the transmission back together,. Not exactly fun but had to be done. Got my license plate mount finished and painted and got the primary support installed as well. Had to space out the bearing support 1/8th inch so the sprocket would not rub. Weird but it should work. Meant to take a picture of it in the bike but forgot. Maybe tomorrow. Funny on my way to the shop I saw a colored fellow pooping at the bus stop. Straight up pants down squatting on the corner just pooping. I laugh all the way to the shop then got sad that it was 3 blocks from where I live. We are selling our house and moving in the next year. Yeah.
Aussie Awesome...
So after at least 10 years of looking(not real hard) I finally own a copy of the Johnnys LP. If you like Country, Rock and Roll and some paisley pop of the 80's then you need to look this shit up. Spencer is one of the true genuine articles when it comes to songwriting. He has some solo records out that are great and has been in the Beasts of Bourbon for 2 decades now. So fucking good it isn't even for real. I was freaking out when I found it at my local record store. 6 bucks and that is that. The day Marty Robbins died is my favorite track, but the whole record is amazing. Look it up.
Make Yourself Smarter.....
Been looking for a copy of this book for years. Went into a book store in Jackson Ca and finally found it. It is so full of awesome shit that I can't even grasp it right now. I should have paid more attention in math class I guess. I can't even figure out how to rotate the pics so you are gonna have to read it sideways. It won't matter as all the numbers are like a alien language to me anyways. The first aid section will be most useful, I hope I never get my head caught in a lathe.

Converge Is my Only One
I have been listening to Converge since the early 90's . I don't recall the first time I heard them but I do remember the first time I really sat and listened to the Saddest Day. This song is SOOOOO fucking crazy that it is hard to even fathom. I sat and learned it on guitar years ago and I think I counted like 20+ parts in this 7 minute opus. Seven fucking minutes and it never gets old. For the last few weeks I have been listening to Converge daily and let me just say that screaming while riding your bike is about the best stress relief out there. Blackhearts and sharpened knifes.
Why, How Come, and Whats The Deal?
The age old question that I get asked almost daily. Why Choppers, Why old Shit, Why vintage everything? Well today I had a old timer ask me this and all I could say was " Old Machines have SOUL". Made perfect sense to me but he looked at me like I was a freak. I am and that is fine. I went on and said I like being hands on with my bikes, I like fixing oil leaks, I like the sound my bike makes in the wee hours of the morning, I especially like to think about the life my bike has had. Every bike out there has had 1 to 3,000 owners. They have soul just like a person. Bikes need love and love is what they get. If you neglect your cycle it will most definitely bite your ass later. So we talked for awhile and he told me about all the bikes he had back in the day. I was jealous as fuck and this guy thought I was living some kind of nightmare. Says his knee still hurt from trying to kick a Sportster over in 1967. I walked up to my bike and showed him if the bike is set up right it goes like this. Gas on, switch on, and one solid kick from TDC and the Ironhead will fire everytime. He was impressed and then gave me a rash about my little tank. After 100 miles my ass is ready for a break anyways. So there you have my answer is SOUL.

One Of Those Days........
Had one of those days that makes you glad to be alive. Fall riding in the Midwest is the best there is. All the trees are changing colors. As you ride in and out of the hills the temp drops and rises like 15 degrees. Got pretty lost today and had the best ride of the year I think. Gravel roads, back roads, river roads and all of them were new to me. Almost 200 miles I guess and the last swap meet was this morning. Scored a old D&D cycle primary support with a new bearing installed. Score! Found one of the Adjust-o-wrench that I have learned to covet. Thanks Michael, and found a good split bar riser for the Sportster this winter. I always do it but I end up building a bike and working on my Ironhead every winter. So bring on the shit weather and I will really get some work done. If you live down under you should go to this event. I just like the art work and I think I really do have a oil stained brain.

Full Thrash Friday Night
Well had a few hours at the shop tonight and whittled out the brake bracket. I have done the same style brake setup on the last 5 bikes or so. Start with a good clean used sport bike caliper. This one is a Tokico off of a Kawa. Replaced the pads and checked out the pucks and bleeder. Bought a brand new rotor as the one that was on it was down to about .160. Way worn out. So I have figured out through much whittling on 6061 that it sucks but the custom bracket looks killer and will never break. Got the frame painted and now on to the brackets and doo-dads that are left. This Death Star will be fully operational by the dead of winter. Dumb I know but the World of Wheels show in Feb will be the first outing. Enjoy

Top 5 Saturday Kinda
So I have a ton of stuff going on this weekend so I decided I would post a epic Top 5 a little early. I have posted all kinds of dumb shit in my top 5 but never a Movie post. So here it goes Top 5 most influential movies in my life
On Any Sunday- Seriously if you haven't seen this movie I feel sorry for you. When I was a kid it was on TV like everyday and I watched it like everyday it was on. Best moto movie ever. I love all the cheesy biker flicks but as a influence I love this movie more every time I watch it. Bruce Brown some how caught everything that is wonderful about motorcycles in this film. Good cinematography and the scene of the hill climbs is so fucking amazing I bought the DVD so I could watch it over and over. Other Motorcycle movies include On Any Sunday 2 and Worlds Fastest Indian
Crybaby- John Waters is truly a gem in the Baltimore trash pile. This movie came out my Senior year of high school and let me just say the day I saw this movie I got on my skateboard and started hatching a plan to get my first real Hot Rod. Johnny Depp was trying to break free of his pretty boy 21 jump street fame. Slumming it in crybaby. Honestly he was perfect but the the real star of the movie is Tracie Lords as Wanda. I knew nothing about her at the time but I knew I liked the way she looked and dressed. First Harley I ever wanted was that KR he rides and the shoebox ford is also on my list of things to own in this life. Soundtrack rules, Iggy rules, and this movie made me wish I was born 50 years earlier so I could have been a proper Juvenile Delinquent. Switch blades, brass knuckles, good girls gone Drape and all that silly banter makes this one fine flick. Kiss me kiss me hard.
Heavenly Creatures- Peter Jackson before all the lords stuff. The man has a gift and this movie is so FUCKED up I can remember not sleeping thinking about it. Based on a true story of two school aged girls that kill one of there mothers so they can run off and be movie stars. Of course it isn't that easy and I will admit that this movie is why I have had a very unhealthy love for Kate Winslet ever since. I would watch it and just go off into la la land thinking of ways to meet her and then intertwined with watching this totally fucked up movie. It gets brutal and weird and it is beautiful to watch. Just go watch it and if it isn't your cup of tea then you have terrible taste.
Another State Of Mind- Hands down the best Punk Rock tour documentary movie ever made. There has been some great other punk rock movies but none of them had such great bands in them. Shawn Stern the singer of Youth Brigade has been one of my life long idols and has the truest convictions and has been helping and doing things for the punk rock community since 1980. No I have never met him but watch this movie and you will see the eyes of someone that truly loves punk rock and embraces all the different elements of it. Social Distortion is in it and I have always loved SD and I always will. Granted the last record was really terrible but one out of ten isn't bad right. The main reason I love this movie is the segment of DC punk rock. Guess who is in it. MINOR FUCKING THREAT the single best hardcore band ever hands down ever. Once at a shitty house party I got into argument with a young very fashionable punk. He claimed that Minor Threat killed punk rock with there bullshit straight edge ideas and that was that. So I punched that fucking kid as hard as I could in the mouth and watch him fucking bleed, I walked out and felt pretty awesome. So say you don't like Minor Threat and I will change your mind. DC has got one of the best band history of any town so seeing Henry Rollins scooping ice cream at Hagen Das was priceless. Sure everything falls apart and ends in a big shit storm but what do you expect from a bunch of punk rockers.
Star wars Trilogy- not remastered, no added scenes , and not on DVD. I grew up watching these amazing movies. I saw them all in the theater and could not wait for the next ones to come out. My personal fave is the Empire Strikes Back and it is the darkest of the three. All things about a good life can be found in these movies. Good vs. Evil. Love vs. hate, going beyond ones personal limits to use the force to destroy. Whatever I never said I was cool. Anyways I have watched all of the Holy Trilogy so many times I have had to chill so I can enjoy them with my kids. So many great parts in these movies that it is hard to even say my favorite parts. Princess Leia is a dream and I don't want to wake up. Boba Fett is the shit and I can name many bands that have got there name from Star Wars.
Boba Fett Youth
Red 5
Nerf herder
Jedi Mind Tricks
Ringo Death Star
Etc Etc
As a bonus this week I will add True Romance to the list. What to say about True Romance? Christian Slater had quite the career for a minute and this is his opus. Clarence is a nerdy Elvis freak that works at a comic book shop. Alabama played by the insanely cute Patricia Arquette is a new to the game call girl. Her love for Clarence is instant and that is where the shit hits the fan for real. Through a sequence of very bad decisions and happenings Clarence and Alabama get married, fuck in a phone booth, try and sell of some drugs and ultimately lay waste to some bad guys. Fucking awesome scene where Clarence is talking to the king and the king tells him to shoot the dog in the face. So Clarence does what the King asks and let me just say it was killer. Sweet tattoo's and the best line in any love story ever" Your So Cool Your So Cool". Fucking go watch it right now.

Keokuk Iowa Again
Yes we made it back in one piece. So 5 tanks of gas, 8qts of oil, one run out of gas situation we made the round trip from Kc to Keokuk. This trip included dropping off tins, a party, shooting shotguns at things, hanging out with Geltz SR. and just some good old hang out time. We all got a chance to ride Michael's new 1980 FLH(fucking large heffer). Let me just say it now ,it ruled. Big giant cushy seat, super comfy bars, floor boards etc etc. Every nut/bolt needs to be tightened but besides that it ruled. Above is a picture of Shea damn near laying it down but through the power of wizardry he kept it up. If ever giving the chance to sit on a bluff in Keokuk and stare at the mighty Miss I do think you should take it. Now back to work on the shovel.

My 67 Trumpet
The year is 2008 I just traded my 73 Moto Guzzi to Bryan Beltz for this tasty little triumph. I had built maybe 15 jap bikes and one Moto Guzzi at this point and was really wanting to step up my bike game. Bryan had already painted the tins and had the motor built up so I finished all the frame work and painted it a real nice white with a ton of pearl in it. There is still pearl all on the wall next to the shed. Ross helped me TIG weld the bar set up and I built the bike up. At this point the bike had not beat me half to death and broken my heart over and over and over. It takes a special kind a Masochist that enjoys old british bikes. In comparison my Ironhead is 1000 times more reliable and better to ride but then again at the time I loved this fucking bike. Took it out to the Smokeout and won a trophy and got it in the magazine. Helped jump start the shop and was allot of fun but like most people I got smart and sold the bike and bought my first Harley. No looking back.
